Raanjhana Movie Review

Introduction
Raajhana is a romantic movie star casted by Sonam Kapoor, Dhanush, Abhay Deol, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub and Swara Bhaskar. The direction to the movie is given by Anand L. Rai. The good part of the movie is the heart melting dimples of Abhay Deol and the innocence in the entire movie that will keep you absorbed in the movie. However, the second half ruins the high that was attained in the first half.

Script Analysis
There are too many loop holes in the narration of the movie. A little bit change in the execution could have done wonders to the movie. Consistent stalking and slapping for fun was the biggest spoiler for me and was plainly illogical. The slimly researched political criteria of the plot drowned the second part of the film. There are many funny bits too, that will literally crack you up. The vision of the film was refreshing. But the screenplay became jerky afterwards and showed the lack of smoothness in the translation of the script by the director.

Star Performances
Superstar Persona is there in Dhanush and he performs with quenching and clever mirth. He stands out solidly with his unmatched energy. The naivety he gets in his character Kundan and the innocence in his work is laudable. Sonam Kapoor is very pretty but she keeps her role hollow and insipid. At the climax of the movie, her flat expressions did some irreparable and crucial damage. In the few minutes, Abhay Deol did an amazing job. His acting was indeed fantastic. Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub and Swara Bhaskar are very good in their supporting roles.

Direction, music and technical aspects
The focus of Anand L. Rai is misplaced and he was handling a fractured script. It seemed like the director did not believe in his own story and at the end the narrative was unjustified and unnecessarily complicated. The writer Himanshu Sharma and director Rai were unable to underline the layers of their characters. The effervescent music of A.R. Rahman is flavoursome and the most fascinating bit of the movie. A thumping quality is lacking in the screenplay of the film. The film ended at a dissatisfactory and an unsettling note.

Watch or not?
Raanjhana, a movie by Anand L. Rai, which is plotted in Benaras is a desi love story. An amazing first part with a drooping second part along with the absurd end of the film is not up to expectations. The film is worth a shot for the bizarreness in Dhanush and compelling performance of Abhay Deol. The film gives off some intoxicating humour and is affable but lowers its hilt because of discrepancies in screenplay.

The Last Word
The film is based on the novel idea of unrequited love. The film is packed with the kinetic first half but turns brittle in the second half. There are few magical performances from the supporting casts mostly Abhay Deol, it is a lackadaisical and clumsy show in the second half. If the film had maintained its force, it would have been more spirited. It gets 2.5 stars out of 5 from my side.
